MaineGeneral Health
Only use this virtual care service if you are able and willing to use Google Talk for Instant Messaging, and have hadeither a Movi or Vidyo (preferably both!) virtual consult room (PC, laptop, mobile care cart, etc) setup in a location accessible to you
I do have an account with Microsoft Communicator at Maine General (user andrew.barbash@mainegeneral.org). I do use the Mobile Droid application..that anyone can also download..for mobile access to MSCommunicator. However, PLEASE CHECK THE STATUS at any times, because one cannot easily connect with MSCommunicator from another mobile IM service, and I do not always keep myself logged into MSCommunicator. Therefore, I very much prefer that you setup a GMail and GTalk acct on your mobile device and find me on Google Talk (send a user invite from your device or personal account to abarbash@gmail.com). I will keep my “status and availability” accurately updated at all times, and you will know whether I am reachable. If you send a GTalk message and do not hear a reply within a few minutes, please assume I am just NOT available for clinical consults at this time, and use other methods of obtaining neurology support or consults from other providers.
Once I receive a GTalk message, I will text you back to let you know if and when I can VIDEO conference back to you, and I will expect to be able to do so in order to provide consultative support. We might do mostly screen sharing of images, we might consult with each other by video, or you might want me to do video chat with the patient, family, medical staff or other caregivers. It all works the same way.
If I get a message indicating we should go right to a Video Consult, then I will login from my PC or laptop and directly RING your mobile virtual cart or your personal movie or vidyo room.
I do have access to the EMR portal from any location, including my mobile device, so can review any relevant imaging or records before we do video consults, for efficiency.
Please do NOT use the phone to reach me, do not leave voice messages, and only email me from an email account you know you will likely be checking again several times a day.
Mobile Carts with uniquely identified “user status” have been setup and should be online at
Waterville ED
Augusta ED
HACCC Cancer Center
A4 Oncology in Augusta Hospital
Hopefully soon several of the primary care practices.
You can request through Dr Andrew Hertler to be setup with your own personal Movi AND Vidyo rooms, as I suggest you have access to both. (find him on MaineGeneral email or MSCommunicator)
You can request through IT (Mark St. John best point of contact, find via email or MSCommunicator) to have yourself setup with an IM MSCommunicator account.
